Both the blatantly disproportionate response to the kidnapping and killing of the three Israeli boys and, as I write, the all-out air strikes on Gaza, have been cast by Israel as military operations: Operations Brothers’ Keeper and Operation Protective Edge. Neither had anything to do with the operations’ purported triggers, the search for the boys or rocket fire from Gaza. Palestinian cities supposedly enjoying extra-territorial status were invaded in Operation Brothers’ Keeper, more than 2000 homes were ransacked, some 700 people arrested. Who knows as yet the devastation wrought on Gaza – 100 dead in more than 1,100 air attacks so far, mostly civilians according to reports; deafening around-the-clock bombing of communities by American-supplied F-15 and artillery from the ground and sea that amounts to collective torture; Israel’s Foreign Minister calling for cutting off all electricity and water amidst threats to completely obliterate Gaza’s infrastructure; and the prospect of almost two million people being permanently imprisoned, reduced to bare existence just this side of starvation.

Aderiamo in solidarietà ai nostri fratelli e sorelle palestinesi che, a partire dalla grande catastrofe del 1948 (che ha reso profughi oltre due terzi della popolazione), continuano a subire quotidianamente varie forme di pressione per mano dello Stato di Israele: dalle “semplici” discriminazioni, alle incarcerazioni senza processo; dall'espropriazione delle terre all'assedio ed altro ancora, fino ad arrivare ad aggressioni omicide com'è recentemente accaduto a Gaza, e non per la prima volta. Tutte queste forme di pressione hanno come risultato una continua e strategica pulizia etnica della Palestina.

Israel takes land, Palestine loses land; that’s the way it works
So a bit more of Palestine has slidden down the plughole. A thousand more acres of Palestinian land stolen by the Israeli government – for “appropriation” is theft, is it not? – and the world has made the usual excuses. The Americans found it “counter-productive” to peace, which is probably a bit less forceful than its reaction would be if Mexico were to bite off a 1,000-acre chunk of Texas and decided to build homes there for its illegal immigrants in the US. But this is “Palestine” (inverted commas more necessary than ever) and Israel has been getting away with theft, albeit not on quite this scale – it is the biggest land heist in 30 years – ever since it signed up to the Oslo agreement in 1993.

In a recent interview with BBC’s Jon Donnison, Israeli police spokesperson, Micky Rosenfeld tells him that the men who killed the three Israelis were “definitely lone cell, Hamas affiliated but not operating leadership.” He goes on to state that “if kidnapping had been ordered by Hamas leadership, they [Israeli government] would have known about it in advance.” So, what was the point of this latest Israeli aggression?
