La campagna Bds, sostenuta da partiti politici, tra cui membri di Fatah, chiede lo stop alla vendita di gas naturale del bacino del Leviatano: “Un altro caso di pace economica che non tiene conto delle reali condizioni del popolo palestinese”.
Roma, 20 febbraio 2015, Nena News – “No agli accordi economici con Israele, visto che il rapporto è tra occupante e occupato”: questo il messaggio inviato dalla società civile palestinese all’Autorità Nazionale che da un anno lavora con compagnie israeliane ad un accordo per la vendita di gas naturale del famoso bacino del Leviatano.

When the Knesset passed the Basic Law on Israel Lands in 1960, enabling the most comprehensive possible discrimination against the country’s Arab citizens, then-Justice Minister Zerah Warhaftig said, “We want it to be clear that the lands of Israel belong to the Jewish people. The Jewish people is a broader concept than the people living in Zion, because the Jewish people are found all over the world. On the other hand, every law we accept is for the good of all the state’s residents, and all the state’s residents include people that do not belong to the global Jewish people … and the land will not be sold permanently … the land of Israel, the lands of Israel, will not be sold permanently … There is a very great legal innovation here: We are giving a legal wrapping to the regulations of the Jewish National Fund.”

If the PA could guarantee its residents a fair economic subsistence, even under Israeli occupation – it would be able to demand that they and the local and municipal councils pay their electricity bills. But the enormous debts to the IEC and the PA’s difficulties in meeting other payments, like to suppliers, hospitals and universities, are the direct and natural result of restrictions on the freedom of movement and development that Israel has forced upon the authority: The two million shekels the PA owes the IEC are dwarfed by the tens of billions that the Palestinian economy has lost just in the past eight years because of Israel’s restrictive and prohibitive policies.

An Associated Press investigation into Israeli airstrikes on Gaza homes during last summer’s war against Hamas concluded that 508 people, or over 60 percent of the casualties, were children, women and older men.
