If [Gideon Sa'ar,] a minister who does not belong to the radical right believes there is room for only one state between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, it would be interesting to hear what the more extremist ministers in Likud and the other coalition parties think. But if so, the integrity of the Land of Israel is not a message being conveyed exclusively by the hilltop youth. It's a message originating in the government that is now spreading among the public. The Jordan has two banks, and both are ours, the hilltop youth cried. And we are forced to remember that according to various traditions, the Greater Land of Israel includes Trans-Jordan as well. (...)

The problem for Ahmad Hamada, 20, is that he has no intelligence to give. Hamada fell from a four-metre high wall earlier this year and suffered serious head injuries, including memory loss. Damage caused by a catheter used during his recuperation means his urethra no longer functions properly.

Loujain, Mohammed e Said non sono giocatori di calcio che suscitano un qualche interesse nella FIFA, la federazione internazionale del calcio. Nessuna associazione universitaria internazionale ha difeso il loro diritto fondamentale di scegliere dove studiare.
A Ihab (argomento dell’articolo della settimana scorsa) Israele ha accordato il permesso di entrare nella West Bank per un determinato intervallo di tempo, perché si fidanzi. Agli studenti di Gaza non è permesso studiare nella West Bank. Le università lì sono, dopo tutto, sono un focolaio di vicende amorose, tanto da far temere che i giovani si rechino in Samaria e in Giudea per sistemarsi.
L’unica cosa che hanno in comune Loujain A-Zaim, studentessa di legge, Mohammed, studente di ingegneria, e Sa’id Qadih, poeta, è di non essere giocatori della squadra nazionale palestinese di calcio. Se lo fossero, questi tre giovani palestinesi ricchi di talento, residenti a Gaza, avrebbero ottenuto dalle autorità israeliane il permesso di lasciare la Striscia tramite il checkpoint di Erez, di attraversare attraverso Israele e poi di rimanere nella West Bank.
Sulla lista delle categorie delle persone a cui è permesso di lasciare Gaza, di entrare in Israele e nella “Regione di Samaria e Giudea” ci sono 16 voci.
E’ una lista lunga, compilata dall’Ufficio del Coordinatore delle Attività del Governo nei Territori (COGAT), che include diverse centinaia di individui (su un milione e mezzo) ai quali Israele ha accordato una minima libertà di movimento. Tra di loro ci sono équipe mediche, pazienti che necessitano di terapie salvavita, parenti di primo grado di ammalati gravi, collaboratori (chiamati “parti minacciate”) e commercianti. Al numero 15 della lista campeggia: “Entrata di giocatori di calcio: l’ingresso in Israele, comprensivo del trasferimento nella Regione di Giudea e Samaria o all’estero, viene concesso ai giocatori della squadra di calcio della nazionale palestinese e alla squadra olimpionica palestinese per partecipare a corsi e a partite, oggetto di richiesta da parte dell’Ufficio palestinese di Coordinamento per gli Affari Civili.”

At 11 P.M., 10 hours after the shooting, still pinned against the wall, the father noticed that his bleeding son was becoming cold and that his breathing was becoming labored. He managed to carry his son back to the gunshot-riddled vehicle, hoping it would be warmer there. But half an hour after midnight, between Friday and Saturday, the son drew his last breath, in his father's arms.
