Gerusalemme, 5 maggio 2014, Nena News – Dopo il 1967, con l’occupazione di Gerusalemme Est da parte di Israele e l’avvio del progetto di “giudaizzazione” della città, le politiche israeliane si sono focalizzate sul mantenimento di un equilibrio demografico a maggioranza ebraica (circa il 70% secondo i dati ufficiali). Per farlo, Israele ha tentato da un lato di espellere il maggior numero di palestinesi e dall’altro ha accolto, tramite la concessione di svariati vantaggi economici, ebrei provenienti da tutte le parti del mondo.

Mr. Serry and members of the diplomatic corps visited an Easter procession from the New Gate to the Holy Sepulcher at the invitation of the Palestinian Christian community in Jerusalem. The procession was stopped at a security checkpoint prior to the entry on the church grounds.

The report points to “the unprecedented surge in settlements activity” since the negotiations resumed in July 2013. This appears to part of Israel’s strategy to use the settlement construction and infrastructures “to expand Jerusalem deeply into the West Bank” so that it includes the settlement blocs of Maale Adumim, Gush Etzion and Givat Ze’ev.
