The Coalition of Women for Peace declares its support for Italian supermarket chains COOP and Nordiconad's decision to suspend sales of Agrexco produce in their stores, and hopes that more supermarket chains will follow in their footsteps.

The Coalition of Women for Peace is comprised of 11 feminist anti-occupation organizations and is a leading voice in the Israeli peace movement. As Israeli peace activists, Jewish and Palestinian, we see it as our duty to support the international community in taking measures against Israeli companies that are involved in sustaining the occupation of Palestine. This international pressure is crucial in changing corporate policies and public opinions, both locally and internationally.

By practically annexing illegal settlements, Israel actively redraws the map of the region in order to sustain and deepen the occupation of the West Bank. Agrexco and other companies that operate in illegal Israeli settlements are an essential component of this Israeli economy of occupation.

A clear labeling of settlement products, as required by EU trade agreements, is a basic legal demand – but it is not sufficient. According to research carried out by our project, “Who Profits from the Occupation?”, Agrexco is the biggest exporter of agricultural products from Israeli settlements. Agrexco operates in Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and directly supports the economy of these illegal settlements.

Agrexco's complicity in Israel's economy of occupation must be challenged by European civil society and we call upon consumers and clients to demand that the company cease all its operations in occupied lands.

The decision by COOP and Nordiconad to suspend sales of Agrexco produce is a brave and important step in the struggle against the occupation of Palestine, against the oppression of the Palestinian people and towards a just peace, prosperity and equality to both peoples: Palestinians and Israelis.
