BDS – Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions – is the strategy proposed by Palestinians to show Israel the international rejection of their politics against the Palestinians.
EJJP asked for the opinions of the member groups on the BDS initiative. We asked the members of our organization “Juedische Stimme für gerechten Frieden in Nahost – EJJP Deutschland e.V.” on December 24th 2009 to express their opinions on BDS. To this end, we proposed three different alternatives, each argued for by one of the members of our board.
Alternative 1.: Full support of the BDS-Campaign
Alternative 2.: BDS only on goods produced in the Occupied Territories
Alternative 3.: No support of BDS
From our 34 members we received 23 answers.
Most of the votes are in favor of BDS:
Alternative 1.: 13 votes
Alternative 2.: 8 votes
Alternative 3.: 2 votes

After an 18-month long blockade, after systematic and comprehensive bombing of an enclosed strip of land that no one can escape from - with its 1.5 million people, it is the most densely populated area of the world; after a blood bath that has cost the lives of over 1000 people, with thousands of heavily wounded and that has traumatised the entire population of Gaza; after the indescribable destruction that has outraged world public opinion daily; after all this there are still voices, who describe Israel's measures as just, humane and necessary.

It took me a long time to compose this letter in my head. We are so deeply involved in our joint work at PRIME, that we many times do not have time or space to share some deeper personal thoughts and feelings. I love you like a brother, and I can feel you love me too. For me you are the brother I never had, emotionally, as a close partner in life. We also allow each other to have our negative emotional outbursts, but we never dealt with the deeper origin of these emotions. I feel a need to try to do a step toward this in my letter to you. I feel the time has come. |
