The ultra-Orthodox Jews’ desire for a halakhic state in the Israeli territory ranges from total denial of the state’s existence to a reliance on divine assistance to send the messiah down to us soon, after which everything will miraculously fall into place. A Sanhedrin will be set up, women will disappear from the public space, the cornucopia of grants for ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students will be tripled, and our enemies will stand with shock and awe before the messiah, or his associates, and accept the creator and his commandments./p>
[...] Are they calling for women to be brought back to their natural place, following the lead of Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, who is concerned over the clothes of three-year old girls, which causes men to have sinful thoughts? Do they want yes-men for judges, and to hell with the facts and the justice system?
[...] When secular, shrimp-eating politicians who advance civil marriage talk of a Jewish state, they mean one thing – a non-democratic state, in which Jews have privileges and rights that others, in other words Arabs, don’t. Avigdor Lieberman doesn’t hide his dream. Naftali Bennett can share this sweet fantasy with him.
