Trump and Netanyahu take an identical approach. Both ignore the problems that concern their voters and dedicate most of their efforts to creating artificial worries (Iranian nukes here, Muslim refugees there) for which they have ready-made answers.

[...] Netanyahu branded himself as an undefeatable ruler who made Israel’s streets safe again. Even an intifada doesn’t shake his reputation as an irreplaceable leader.

[...] Their support stems directly from a loss of hope, which both have generated and from which they have benefited the most. The Americans can still put an end to the age of cynicism. For us, it’s far too late.
